Day 3 – Grapevine – San Antonio
Depart for San Antonio (estimated 290 miles – approximately 4 1/2 hours).
Enjoy shopping in festive Market Square and a late lunch of authentic Mexican cuisine at one of San Antonio’s local restaurants.
Hop on San Antonio’s trolley and enjoy the famous River Walk. Dine at one of the many wonderful restaurants along the river or take a one-of-a-kind dinner cruise.
Depending on the time of year, evening entertainment can also be enjoyed at one of San Antonio’s several theatres including a Broadway, symphony or a folklorico performance along the river.
Day 4 – San Antonio
Begin your day by having breakfast with the locals. Discover tender barbacoa, chilaquiles (a regional favorite made with eggs, cheese, peppers and crisp tortilla strips) or try a breakfast taco with chorizo con huevos seasoned with cumin.
Journey to the heart of Downtown San Antonio to find the Alamo. Originally a Spanish colonial mission, the Alamo is where 189 Texas defenders held 4,000 Mexican troops at bay for 13 days in their claim for Texas Independence.
Visit Main Plaza where you can view the San Antonio courthouse, San Fernando Cathedral, the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum, as well as a number of other local shops and attractions.
Embark on Mission Trail to explore the four other Spanish colonial missions set amidst the native grasslands along the San Antonio River.
Tonight, enjoy dinner from a selection of restaurants owned by local culinary stars.
After dinner, plan for a night on the town listening to the sounds of mariachis at various venues. You may also want to sample from San Antonio’s large selection of imported tequilas, beers and of course – margaritas!
Day 5 – San Antonio – Houston
Depart early for Houston (estimated 198 miles – approximately 3 hours).
Upon arrival, stretch your legs in the downtown Discovery Green, a 12-acre park featuring water gardens, artwork, amphitheatre and fantastic, local dining options.
This afternoon, visit the Houston Museum District, home to 19 museums. Be amazed at the Museum of Natural Science featuring the world’s finest collection of gems and minerals, dinosaur fossils, IMAX theatre and more. Only blocks away, visit the award-winning Houston Zoo, set in a 55-acre tropical landscape, or stop at the Museum of Fine Arts to view classics by Rembrandt, Picasso and modern masterpieces.
For dinner, head over to Goode Company BBQ, which has been serving expertly served brisket, sausage and their famous jalapeño cheese bread since 1977.
Day 6 – Houston
Travel approximately 45 minutes southwest to enjoy a century of Texas cowboy and pioneer living at George Ranch Historical Park, a real working ranch with an interactive history spanning from the Texas Revolution to the Second World War; or journey into space at the world famous Space Center Houston to see where astronauts are trained and US space missions are controlled.
For a unique and off-the-beaten path experience, visit the Art Car Museum and the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum.
Stop by Houston’s premier shopping mall the Galleria, where you can shop your favorite brands and couture designers before heading home.
Close out your Houston experience with dinner of fine cuisine at one of the award-winning restaurants located near the Galleria or enjoy a private dinner and party at the Memorial Wine Cellar.
